Speech is one of the main sources of how we express our feelings. Reports say that an average person uses 2000 -5000 words per day. However, this may vary from person to person and we’ll never be able to keep track of each and every single word we say.
Have you ever thought about whether we’re hurting someone’s feelings while we’re using our freedom of speech? Have you ever thought about how much a person’s self-esteem can get damaged by a random comment we’ve made on their appearance, interest, etc…
This damage can be severe especially during childhood due to the child’s mentality being very naïve and fragile. Sometimes we wouldn’t realize the damage which we’ve made to somebody’s whole life.
As per my personal experience, I still feel very insecure about smiling and showing my teeth since I used to get a comment saying that I have “horse-like teeth” from one of my siblings while I was a kid all the time. This led me to feel low about my appearance and didn’t make any difference no matter how many people said that I looked beautiful.
Low self-esteem and self-doubt are the most poisonous thoughts could have in someone’s mind. Apparently, it could decrease your energy level and your day-to-day work can get very difficult. Most people choose to go on a different path when it comes to their career choice than what they’re passionate about from childhood due to someone’s rude comment on the same.
So… thinking twice before commenting on someone will take a few seconds, but we can make someone’s future so bright and make the world a better place.
